At Mosaic Media, we had the extraordinary opportunity to work on a music recording project for the legendary band U2, specifically for their song “Origin of the Species.” This project came about in a serendipitous way. I was asked, “Who do you want to work with?” Half an hour later, the phone rang, and the record company asked me if I wanted to record a track with U2. They were in town and wanted to record an orchestra, as well as vocals and guitars. It was a clear reminder that if you have a dream or wish and it is super clear, it can actually come true.
Working with Bono and The Edge was an incredible experience. Despite having all the fancy microphones and setups ready, Bono simply said, “Why? I just need a handheld and I can stand next to you in the studio, that’s fine.” This experience proved that recording with fancy equipment is not always the holy grail. While high-quality gear can enhance the sound, the true magic starts with the source – the talent and authenticity of the artists themselves. This project not only showcased our technical capabilities but also reinforced the importance of simplicity and authenticity in music production.
